FINALLY met up with Doodoo dear for a nice talk and afternoon together :) The poor girl was busy meeting deadlines and rushing out projects in the first week I was back so it was good that we managed to meet up just before I left!
Came to this bistro 2 years ago when Ion first opened and back then it was still called Gusttimo if Im not wrong but this time, they renovated the surroundings and revamped the menu as well!
Capellini l’ Aglio Olio $16– Capellini tossed in garlic oil, garlic confit, garlic mash, chilli and Italian Parsley
Aglio Olio is the only style of pasta I eat so Ive had good ones and bad but this one was WAY AWESOME! Somehow the chef has managed to make this dish so simple and yet so perfect. I asked for extra chilli as well and the garlic was simply the main highlight of it. I finished every last bit, even the garlic cloves. Though I regretted it after with the whole garlic breath after effects. Hee
Risotto ai Gunchi Prezzemolo $16- White wine risotto with baked, seasonal mushrooms
Another dish done to perfection. Loved that you could taste all the different flavours blended together with each grain of rice. Very very impressive :)
This is a bell that is placed on every table for you to press for service. Doo and I were very very amused with it. However, we found that the old fashioned way of raising your hand was still more effective.
The place was kind of empty for a lunch crowd but maybe it’s because it was a difficult place to find. But do try it. The dishes we tried were really quite amazing and they were not even the Chef’s Specials! ;)
Next it was off to good old TWG because Doo has never been there before and because I promised them that I would drop by for tea just before flying back :)
We were not too hungry so I ordered 4 macarons for Doo to try and one pot of Earl Grey Pu Er for us to share :) But they came back with 8 and an additional pot of White Earl Grey as a nice farewell treat =D
I didnt like the flavours they added so I got them to change to my favourite ones :) Hee so Doo would have a nice macarons experience :)
Black – infused with Napoleon Tea, Tahitian vanilla and Caramel Dices.
Dark Brown – infused with Camelot tea and Praline
Brown – Earl Grey Fortune with Chocolate Gauche
Yellow – Lemon Bush Tea
Purple – Grand Wedding Tea, Passionfruit and Coconut
Dark Pink – 1837 Black Tea and Blackcurrant
The White Earl Grey that they brought out for us to try was so good! Heaps better than the one I chose initially. Next time, Im going to ask them to help me choose instead. TWG at Ion has the best service, that’s why I frequent there so much and it’s always nice to have familiar faces serving you and remembering what you like to order :) Promised them I would go back in July for another round when Im back :D
Hawker centre food does not usually get featured on this blog simply because I dont bring my camera out whenever we go there. I usually just get into a pair of shorts and a t shirt, hop into dad’s car and head off. No wallet, no handphone and of course no camera. So I dont get to capture the yummy and cheap delights that most hawker centres/markets have to offer :(
But this time.. it was after my trip to Jewels Artisan Chocolate with Xin when dad picked me up for dinner so my camera was already in my bag! :D We meant to eat my favourite Sambal Stingray at this stall that I grew up eating from and absolutely loved it but it was closed for the day :( So we decided to try another coffee shop around the corner that Mum usually has company lunches at and she said it was not too bad!
Their specialty: Yeun Choy with Fried Ikan Billis (we ordered 2 plates of this, medium sized because it was so good!)
Song He Fish fried in Spicy Black Bean Sauce
And of course, my tze char regular: Hotplate Tofu :D
The best part about hawker centres and coffee shops is that you get good food at cheap prices with NO GST or SERVICE CHARGE! :D

Then of course, it was off to Ghim Moh market again for my durians at my favourite stall :) Best creamy durians in Singapore. My 3rd round since coming home! :D This is what mummy and I bond over- durians and chocolate xx Dad just brings me to buy the durians, chooses the awesomely good ones and pays for them because he isnt too crazy over them. LOL!
The newly renovated Raffles City Shopping Centre looks really good and has so many new restaurants and cafes! Managed to try 2 today and was not disappointed at all! :)
The concept of Tokyo Deli Cafe is very interesting! The food is all cooked and prepared then put on display. You then get to pick and choose the dishes you want, which they serve in ramekins. And every one tasted so good! :)
Lunch set: $10.80 ++ with free tea/coffee
4 Deli set- $13.80 ++
Was about to finish eating when suddenly the waiter brought this bread and butter pudding out for us and said it was compliments from the counter. So we got to try dessert as well! :) YUMS
Then it was round 2 at Soup Broth Asia which is the Eastern version of The Soup Spoon and ironically, both restaurants are located next to each other. LOL!
The Hainanese Beef and Tripe Hotpot $8.20

Would have definitely wanted to try more restaurants at the basement but I was too full already. So Raffles City Shopping Centre basement is now a new food haven that I am going to conquer! ;)
I bought 2 packets of coconut milk the last time I made the Pandan Chiffon Cake and because I knew no one would use the second packet when I go back to Adelaide, I scoured the internet for a coconut milk recipe that did not require me to buy any additional ingredients and I found this recipe! Plus there were no additives like nuts or dried fruits which was perfect for Xin because she likes plain old dark chocolate cake :) And I couldnt fly back without letting her try something I made because she has been asking why she never got to try anything. Whoops!
Ingredients for cake:
- 1 cup of semi-sweet/dark chocolate chips
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3/4 cup boiling water
- 6 TBS butter, melted
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup coconut milk
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Preheat oven to 180C.
- Line bottom of 9″ pan with round of parchment paper, butter paper, and sides of pan.
- In a bowl combine chocolate chips with hot water and cocoa powder. Let mixture stand, stirring occasionally, until chocolate is melted and mixture is smooth.
- In a bowl add flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. In another large bowl, beat butter and sugar until combined. Add eggs (adding one at a time) until thickened slightly and light colored (about 3 minutes). Slowly add coconut milk, and melted chocolate mixture, beating until combined well. Add flour mixture and beat until just combined.
- Pour batter into pan, and bake in middle of oven until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean, 25-30 minutes.
- Cool cake completely before frosting (VERY IMPT)
Frosting (Chocolate Coconut Buttercream):
- 3/4 cup butter
- 2/3 cup cocoa powder
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2c-3/4 cup coconut milk,
- 1/2 tsp – 1tsp pure coconut extract (I left this out because I didnt have any)
- Beat butter, cocoa, powdered sugar, and coconut extract, and add coconut milk a little at a time until you reach a consistency you like.
Xin’s forkful of cake straight from the container itself!
And it got Miss ‘Im crazy over dark chocolate’ ‘s stamp of approval! :)
Anyway she got me Royce WHITE chocolate as a farewell gift!
Just the way I like it! :) And that’s how different the two of us are even though we’re best friends and chocoholics! HAHA! I love my white chocolate and she loves it as dark and bitter as possible, even up to 70%! Madness…

The mastermind behind these yummy delights is Chef Then Chui Foong who has been a chocolatier in the F&B industry for more than 20 years. She has apprenticed with highly regarded confiseurs such as Pierre Marcolini and Pierre Herme. Her chocolates and macarons can definitely give big players like TWG and Canele a run for their money! Do try this place and support local talent ;) You wont regret it! :)
