Travel: 5 Best Dessert Places In Adelaide

It’s a well known fact that I have a major sweet tooth. Chocolates, cakes, ice-cream- you name it, Id probably love them. Anyway a few people have been asking me where the best dessert places in Adelaide are, so I have decided to compile a list of my favourite sweet places in this city. And since this is my list, it’s also based on my opinions so you probably may or may not agree with me but to each its own.

Right at the top of the list at No. 1 for me is good old CHOCOLATE BEAN
18 Union Street, Adelaide SA 5000

Chocolate Hazelnut Heaven
Chocolate Bean Round 2!

Nobody makes chocolate the way Chocolate Bean does. Love everything about their desserts, the coziness of the cafe and the friendliness of the staff. Maybe Im just biased because of its super convenient location. This is a favourite with the housemates and I! Must tries here are the Indulgence Plate, Chocolate Filth and their cakes on display.

Next..tied at No. 2 is THE AVIARY DESSERT KITCHEN
227 The Parade, Norwood 5067

An Afternoon At The Aviary
The Aviary Dessert Kitchen
Aviary Dessert Kitchen Revisited
Back To The Aviary

I really like the furniture and deco at the Aviary. Have been slowly making my way through the menu and I havent been disappointed yet :) Must tries are the Matcha Latte and the Macaron Flower Pot.

and STEVEN TER HORST CHOCOLATIER
221d Unley Rd, Malvern 5061

Steven ter Horst Chocolatier

Desserts here are made on the spot with the pâtissier himself in the kitchen ready to come out and talk to his patrons at anytime. Must tries are the Chocolate Truffle Tart, Hazelnut Heaven and Lemon Lust

No. 3 is DEVOUR DESSERT BAR
96 Prospect Road, Prospect 5082

Devour Dessert Bar

The only complaint I have about this place is their lack of electricity. Apart from that…YUMS! Must tries are the Chocolate Fondant, Lemon Meringue Pie and the Chocolate Donuts

Tied at No. 4 is EGGLESS DESSERT CAFE
162 Goodwood Road, Goodwood 5034

Eggless Dessert Cafe on Goodwood Road
Eggless ROUND 2 March Menu

They change their menus every month..so it’s worth a monthly visit ;) It usually does not disappoint. The tasting platter is a safe bet for a good sample of their desserts on the menu.

and AU MATIN CALME
Shop 1 / 210 Hutt Street, Adelaide 5000

Au Matin Calme

Both their sweet and savoury crepes are really good so really, just take your pick. For takeaway, the almond croissants are a must try!

And last but not least at No. 5 is THE MAC FACTORY
190b Hutt Street, Adelaide 5000

The Mac Factory
Jour Du Macaron 2011
Sundaes at The Mac Factory

The Mac Factory is not at no.5 because they arent as good as the others but simply because they have fewer dessert varieties. However they just recently added sundaes to their huge array of macaron flavours. I think they are slowly and surely expanding their list :)

Other dessert places in Adelaide that Im not too crazy about but still pretty popular…

CHOCOLATREE
25 O’Connell St, North Adelaide 5006

Chocolatree
Chocolate Spam at Chocolatree

I think Ive had the best hot chocolates here and I especially love their Praline Nut (dark)…

COCOLAT
281 Rundle Street, Adelaide 5000

Best memories Ive had here with late night conversations with the girls because they are open till 1-2am almost every day. But the cakes tend to taste a little mass-produced and lacking a little personal, home made touch…

PATISSERIE JIN
241 Unley Road, Adelaide 5061

Patisserie JIN

I really like their Chocolate Fondant but the rest of their desserts is not much to be raved about. The prices are a little steep as well for the sizes of their cakes and many people have been complaining about their service or the lack of..

ELEPHANT WALK CAFE
76 Melbourne St, North Adelaide 5006

Elephant Walk Cafe

Anything to do with peanut butter is a must try. Their sticky date and chocolate puddings are not too bad as well :) The place is quite small though so be prepared to wait a while for your desserts because they are usually quite shorthanded with the crowds.

So that my dear friends, sums up my entire list. If you have any other dessert places to try in Adelaide, just drop a comment and let me know!
