omy.sg Singapore Blog Awards 2012

I was very excited to receive an email two days ago informing me that Gninethree was one of the top ten finalists in the Domino’s Best Food Blog category of Singapore Blog Awards 2012!

I have not had the opportunity of blogging frequently the past week as I am currently globetrotting around the world with the family after attending my sister’s commencement ceremony at Columbia in New York City.. So this entire post is constructed on my iPhone 4 and I apologize for my lack of resources in posting a more creative and photo-filled post.

BUT I promise I will be back with many travelogues of yummy food places from both the US and Canada once I reach home!

And these are a couple of E-interview questions omy.sg has for the finalists!

1. How do you feel about being one of finalists in Singapore Blog Awards 2012?

This is definitely very unexpected and I am psyched about the whole thing. It is a very nice feeling to get recognized for the hard work I put into writing and updating my baby- Gninethree and it is indeed very encouraging to know that people do enjoy reading my blog as much as I enjoy updating it!

2. When did you start blogging and what drew you to it? Where do you get inspiration for your blog content?

I started blogging one year ago back in Adelaide. It initially started as a platform to post all my photos of food which I enjoyed taking. I love taking mouth-watering photos of food that make people hungry and happy when they see it because that’s how I feel whenever I see a good food photo online too!

Next, the hobby evolved into something a little more when friends started to ask me for cafes and restaurant recommendations because at that point in time, the food blogging community in Adelaide was not as established as the one in Singapore yet. So I began to add my own comments and little notes about various places- what was good and not so good there. Basically to share my love for food and to spread the word about good food around.

The recipes section came about when I first turned to baking to relieve stress from school work. Watching my first macaron shells grow their little ‘feet’ in the oven was the most exciting experience and as they say, ‘the rest is history‘ and I never looked back ever since! I then began to realize that homemade baked cupcakes, brownies and muffins were a great way to share happiness and put a smile on others’ faces. Seeing the satisfied looks of my friends when they take a bite into a cupcake I make, puts a smile on my own face too!

However, I still consider myself an amateur baker so I’m always on the lookout on various Australian and US baking blogs for easy recipes and most of them are modified by me to make them even simpler to follow. My mantra is ‘as long as I can bake or make it, so can anyone!‘ I also love receiving emails from people all around the world who have tried my recipes and tell me that it had been a huge hit with their friends! That definitely keeps me wanting to bake more.

3. How do you feel about the other Finalists in your category this year? How do you think you will fare compared to them?
I do follow some of the blogs that are also finalists in this year’s blog awards so being voted alongside these blogs is definitely an honor :) Although Gninethree is still a very young blog in the Singapore food blogging community, I assure you that it still has as much to offer!

4. Give a reason why readers should visit your blog and vote for you?
I enjoy blogs that have mouthwatering photos of food with straightforward and honest opinions and a simple layout to navigate around so this is exactly what I strive to do with my blog!

Offering suggestions and my personal comments to good food places that I have tried and recipes that are easy to follow is what Gninethree is all about. After all, good food is meant to be shared :)
