GIVEAWAY | L’Atelier TiramiSu @ The Central

This giveaway is now CLOSED!

L’Atelier TiramiSu is the hottest new launch in town. Probably the first Tiramisu concept store to open in Singapore, this cafe that retails Tiramisu in various flavors is a refreshing change to the usual coffee liqueur + espresso combination.

The cafe name- L’Atelier TiramiSu pays tribute to its European origins with L’Atelier meaning ‘workshop’ in French and TiramiSu is spelt the Italian way as the original recipe has traditional Italian roots but has since been modified to include less sugar and a reduced coffee intensity to suit the local palate.

An exciting venture by home-baker turned cafe owner Judith Tan, together with her son Sherwin and his girlfriend Amelia, the trio have spent more than 6 months perfecting the alcohol:coffee ratio as well as which alcohol best complements each flavor for their range of Tiramisu. Their cohesive partnership is reflected by the ownership each of them personally takes with every stage of the Tiramisu-making process.

To date, the month-old modernized-chic cafe hidden inconspicuously at the basement of The Central at Clarke Quay, has four different flavors on the menu. Word has it that two more are in the pipelines so keep your eyes peeled!

The Dark Cherry (Orange liqueur + Cognac) had titillating notes of bitterness with sweet bites of cherries. Unapologetically intense in flavor, the alcohol content is strong in this one and I am sure that the purists will take to it.

Matcha (Dark Rum) was well-received by even the non-Tiramisu fans. Using only premium matcha powder, this had a surprisingly creamy lightness to it and a caramel richness that gave it a more pronounced velvety texture and smoothness with each bite. Extremely delightful.

My favorite that day was the Lychee (Lychee liqueur + Vodka). Fruity and tropical, the ripened lychee flavor in the Tiramisu had a refined freshness to it and was delicately sweet. With the floral aroma and hints of rose petal all captured in a single bite, this was undeniably good.

Of course the Classico is still the best seller and after our first taste of it, it was not hard to see why. Made from Liberty Coffee beans pulled directly from their Rocket R58 machine and using the Bain Marie (water-bath) method of making their Tiramisu, the end product has a robust presence of espresso and a luscious soft sponge cake that was moist throughout.

blogDSC_3850-001

Most notable perhaps was the distinctive dimension of Savoiardi lady fingers, thoroughly soaked in the coffee liqueur and Marsala wine, which blended so effortlessly with the silky layers of Sabayon and mascarpone, finishing with finesse.

I have tried the much raved about Da Paolo Tiramisu and I dare say that L’Atelier TiramiSu’s Classico is possibly more deserving of the title as ‘The Best Tiramisu in Singapore’.

Alternatively, I personally recommend getting the Sample Set $15 which allows you to have a taste of each flavor and decide which one you like best. L’Atelier TiramiSu also sells 7″ cakes for $48, a size perfectly capable of feeding up to 8 individuals.

Coffee connoisseurs will be pleased to know that they too can enjoy their slice of Tiramisu with a nutty cup of coffee made from the same premium coffee machine (used in their Classico Tiramisu) and pulled by a barista formerly from Loysel’s Toy.

For the non-caffeine drinkers, a range of Latisaniere Teas directly imported from France and bottled Arizona Teas from America are also sold here. Herbal infusions such as the Camomile with Honey and Rose Petals teas are served with ice-cubes made from the tea itself to prevent that light delicate tea essence from being watered down.

I would love to try the matcha flavour! Japanese and italian desserts are usually miles apart in terms of taste and texture, but this combination brings my two favourite cuisines together so that you get the best of both worlds! The bitterness of the matcha probably goes perfectly with the sweet creamy filling, and will prevent the dessert from being overly sweet. Matcha goes so well with cheese and Ill also get to try how well it goes with rum!

  57. Chin Ming says:

    Dark Cherry.
I would like to bring my niece & try it (plus other flavours as well) together. Why dark cherry?
My niece has a distorted view of the world, thinking life is sweet as a superstar and she could lead a life of luxury & wealth without putting in hard work.
I want to use this dining experience as a teaching opportunity, to tell her that life is not always sweet as sugar, that you’ll taste bitterness (downs of life) & sweetness (ups of life), and it is never always to be smooth sailing in life. The dark cherry is the perfect “food” for this lesson as it has titillating notes of bitterness with sweet bites of cherries!

  58. Pei Chwen says:

The Classico! Not only because it could be the best tiramisu in Singapore, but also because I’m a big fan of Liberty Coffee! Moreover, I like all things espresso… the robust presence of espresso is essential to perk me up for my projects at night. Moreover, many cafes serve cakes which do not have a smooth & even texture throughout. Hence I very much prefer the water-bath method of baking which ensures that no portion is overcooked and you enjoy (and lick) the entire lovely creation from head to toe!

  59. Koh Hock Guan says:

I would love to try “Lychee” as I can have all my favourites which are Lychee and Tiramisu and looking at the picture make my saliva drooling!! Being a Lychee & Tiramisu lover, I can imagine the taste will be super “Tiramichee” when combined with Lychee!! =)
If I realli get chosen, I would love to write reviews and take photos on this fantastic Lychee Tiramisu Combo because I never try this before and will be excited to eat this ! :P
Thank You “L’Atelier Tiramisu” & “Gninethree” for the wonderful introduction of the wonderful Tiramisu !! ^_^
