HOUSE@Dempsey Launches New Dessert Menu

A dining experience at HOUSE is always a pretty affair. Subtle vintage touches, dainty crockery and the polished vibe makes one feel pampered and a tad luxurious just by walking through those floor-to-ceiling- glass doors. I have long been a fan of HOUSE’s Vintage Hi-Tea Party which is only available on Thursdays and Fridays for $30++. The gorgeous display of cakes and pastries in such an elegant fashion with scores of scrumptious treats to feast on like there is no tomorrow, it is little wonder why reservations are mandatory and the last minute ones do not stand a chance.

But! For those of you cannot get off on the weekdays or find Dempsey a wee bit inconvenient to get to, I am super excited to share the good news that HOUSE has recently revamped its ala-carte dessert menu with 8 brand new offerings which you can enjoy everyday and even some at the Skinny Pizza branches. From good ol’ American pies to simple comfort fare of toasted brioche with salted caramel, this refreshed menu is not for the faint-hearted but so irresistible on the eyes that everyone will find it hard to say no.

Starting with the cakes, the Lemon Curd Cheesecake $9.50 though appearing seemingly plain, was a delightful tangy surprise with its layer of thick velvety lemon curd beneath the surface. Smooth and creamy, with its sourish notes, the curd cut through the richness of the cheese so effortlessly. The Mango Coconut Passionfruit Cake $9.50 on the other hand, with its elaborate pipings of cream and lashings of coconut flakes was such a pretty picture but a clash of flavours within.

More commonly known as the Hummingbird Cake, this Banana Coconut Pecan Cake $9.50 wins the best newcomer award of the lot and even won the heart of my friend who -gasps- shuns bananas. Wholesome and perhaps even pedestrian looking, the cake grows on you with every bite and before you know it, you have eaten the whole slice. Taste, texture and togetherness, HOUSE’s Hummingbird Cake scores in every category.

Three tiered and probably one of the more dense cakes, the Orange Blossom Carrot Cake $9.50, which puts an orange-flavoured twist to the usual carrot cake, will give you the biggest bang for your buck.

Moving on to the only pie on the list, the Key Lime Pie $8.50 (top picture) with its crumbly digestive biscuit base and sour lime custard was perfectly balanced and not saccharine sweet. Topped with torched meringue curls for a complete look, you definitely have to take a huge forkful of this to enjoy it with the highest level of satisfaction.

If you are looking for something smaller, maybe lighter but no less delectable, the Salted Caramel Toastie $15 is an upgrade of the comforting combination of ice-cream sandwiched in between bread. Using a buttery brioche and caramel biscuit ice-cream instead with a generous dash of salted caramel and caramelized walnuts, this IS the dessert for those craving something sweet and sinful.

Alternatively, the Warm Sticky Date Pudding $12 is equally alluring with its blanket of salted caramel sauce and yes caramel biscuit ice-cream as well. We all wanted to bring a tub of that ice-cream home with us, which would have been a much welcomed relief in our awfully warm weather these days.

Fans of the Warm Toffee Cake $9.50 and Bitter Chocolate Tart $8.50 will also be pleased to know that these 2 items have remained on the menu due to its popular demand.

Thank you Annabelle and Janet of Spa Esprit Group for the enjoyable dessert party!
