A Long Long Saturday Lunch @ Edge, Pan Pacific Singapore

Move aside ‘Brunch’, ‘Tunch’ might just be taking over your place very soon. The latter, essentially the amalgamation of lunch and afternoon tea is the new it-term possibly ingeniously coined by the people of Pan Pacific Singapore who had just launched their 4 hour long long lunch comprising of 30 local delights and hawker favourites for just $50 NETT! Available from 12-4pm every Saturday, I dare say this might be one of the most affordable quality buffets in town right now!

As a culinary tribute to our Singapore heritage, Edge at Pan Pac spoils their diners first with well-loved signatures of Laksa, Nasi Lemak, Roti Prata, Bak Kut Teh, Fried Carrot Cake and more for lunch, before transiting smoothly into afternoon tea with presentations of Kueh Pie Tee, Popiah, Eggs and Toast with various spreads and finally ending off with a delightful dessert display of Ice Kachang, Durian Desserts, Nonya Kueh and Portuguese Egg Tarts. Suffice to say, the selection and assortment of food does not get any more local than these delicacies.

Seven live theatres also mean that diners can enjoy some live action of chefs deftly chopping up roast meats and having their bowl of homemade Laksa or Penang Prawn Noodle Soup prepared a la minute.

My personal favourites that afternoon were the buttery toasts filled generously with coconut infused kaya, piquant laksa that packed a lemak punch, the peppery Bak Kut Teh which warmed the belly so comfortingly and the thin-skinned popiah rolls that were bursting with ingredients with every bite. Talk about taking a gastronomic heritage trail indeed!

Adding a touch of authenticity and enlivening the atmosphere was also the Teh Tarik man who skillfully ‘pulled’ a bubbly cup of hot well-balanced thick creamy tea served in an old-school tin cup that was plain satisfying.

And if you need a palate change, the Japanese and Thai counters offer a variety of sashimi and sushi for the former and papaya or mango salad with tom yam soup for the latter.

Do not leave without trying their kueh pie tee and popiah! Simply place your order at the respective counters and give them your table number stick. The food will be delivered right to your table.

Not forgetting also for durian lovers like myself, their mini assortment of durian-based desserts such as Durian Fudge, Durian Cake, Durian Puffs and Durian Pengat is guaranteed to make you return for seconds and even thirds. I know I did and still could.not.get.enough.
