Sunday Folks @ Chip Bee Gardens

From the same people behind home-grown ice-cream brand Creamier at Lor 1 Toa Payoh, comes a new soft-serve dessert concept located in the heart of Chip Bee Gardens. And almost an entirely different concept it is indeed as compared to their predecessor, as Sunday Folks serves mainly just 6 flavours of soft serve ice-cream and a range of cakes which changes routinely. Rest assured however, their famous crisp eggy waffles are still on the menu.

The space itself is much more luxurious than the cramped few seats there were in Creamier, with this being a lot more spacious and airy, sitting roughly 40 people quite comfortably. The interior too while minimalistic, bears some attention to details with vases of flowers on each table, light brown wooden furniture complimenting the cream-coloured walls, creating an overall cosy and comfortable feel.

All 6 soft serve flavours- Summer Strawberries, Roasted Pistachio, Earl Grey Lavender, Madagascar Vanilla, Seasalt Gula Melaka and Dark Chocolate are freshly churned and dispensed via copper taps forming a beautiful swirly pattern onto your warm made-to-order waffles or cones. While Sunday Folks offers a wide range of toppings for customization, the cones come with a few toppings of their own already prepared for you. Each cone is $6.90 and any additional standard/premium topping will be charged an extra $1.50/$1.90 accordingly.

The photos on this post are an accumulation of a total of 3 visits in less than week. Clearly I could not get enough of this place and I wanted to try everything on their menu (not really an arduous task). I had their waffles on 2 of the visits and yes they do use the same recipe and batter as the ones in Creamier (the same waffles that made it into my list of 5 Best Places For Waffles in Singapore). The subtle difference I personally feel is that the waffles do match the soft-serve ice-cream slightly better than the regular ice-cream at Creamier. Regular waffles here with strawberries and blueberries start from $8 while the addition of a soft-serve starts from $10.50.

Please do not ask me which flavour is the best because I think that it boils down to personal preference. I have tried almost all the flavours during my repeated visits here and have been extremely satisfied with my experiences, even with their combination of toppings. Special mention though has to go to the Earl Grey Lavender ice-cream with Lavender Konnyaku- so delicate, subtle yet enjoyable. But even if you are not feeling spontaneous, a swirl of their Madagascar Vanilla is already oh so good.

For cakes, their Matcha Cake $7.90 and Matcha Roll $6.90 (whichever is available for the day), are also worth the calories- soft, moist with a subtle bitterness from the Matcha powder and a little sweet.

Oh yes there is no GST or service charge here either! For more eateries/cafes in Singapore with no GST or service charge, check out my list of 25 Places to Eat in Singapore with Nett Prices.
