All-New Afternoon Tea Experience at Anti:dote Lounge, Fairmont Singapore

Anti:dote Lounge, located at the lobby of Fairmont Singapore is one of the newest and most stylish cocktail bars to open on our island. Known for both their experimental mixology techniques and modern tapas by two extremely talented and young craftsman and chef, this snazzy lounge has become the place to be at and to be seen in. And most recently, Anti:dote has upped the ante by launching an All-New Afternoon Tea Experience that is simply charming, chic and practically everything you can dream off for an indulgent sweet afternoon with the ladies.

For starters, the canapes, scones, finger sandwiches and the usual suspects are presented sophisticatedly in an elegant leather-clad white jewellery drawer-chest (because three tier displays are so yesterday). Simply a treasure trove of goodies and treats. Every “drawer” you pull out reveals a whole different set of sweet and savoury surprises.

But before we move towards the drawer-chest itself, Anti:dote serves 3 different themed sets- The Anti:dote Tea, The Oriental Tea and The Regal Tea, with each set having their own unique factor. The first 2 are priced at $38++ per person, while the third, served with a glass of champagne, is $75++ per person. All 3 sets also come with free-flow TWG teas.

From The Anti:dote Tea set, we were treated to an appetizer of Black Truffle Scrambled Eggs with house made brioche slices on the side. The egg was runny and cooked perfectly with just the right consistency, served in its shell to add a rustic touch. Topped with a shaved truffle, we were already impressed from the start.

The Oriental Tea set on the other hand, is served with dim sum favourites such as Har Gau, Chive Dumpling, and Scallop Siew Mai. Good effort on the dim sum which scored points for its thin elastic skin and plump sweet fillings. Even more admirable when you find out that Spaniard Head Chef Carlos Montobbio (first picture at the top) was the man behind these creations.

Moving onto the drawer-chest proper, we have the sweets right at the top clearly displayed on the mirrored surface. The portions showed here are for 2 so if you order 1 set, you will only get 1 serving of everything.

There were Strawberry Gateau with Raspberry and Lychee Pearls, Apple Delight Almond Crumble, Earl Grey Éclairs, Karukera Chocolate Mirror Tart, Ant:dote Rum Baba and Homemade Truffles. Every item was so intricately detailed and downright pretty, I simply could not bear to start eating. But I am glad I did because thankfully they tasted as good as they looked. Yes, judging food by their appearances paid off this time. And if I had to be really picky, I personally thought the Earl Grey Éclair, Karukera Chocolate Mirror Tart and Truffles were outright winners for me.

From the first drawer, we had finger sandwiches such as Smoked Salmon with Crème Fraîche and Caviar, Boston Lobster Roll with Herb Mayonnaise and Prosciutto with Onion Jam and Aged Cheddar, Coronation Curried Chicken and Cucumber Dil Salad with Cream Cheese. Absolutely adored the Smoked Salmon Crème Fraîche combination and appreciated how Chef Carlos had thoughtfully paired all the fillings with different types of bread so there was variety and no chance of you feeling “jerlak” from too much bread!

The second drawer was probably the most filling with Warm Raisin and Candied Ginger Scones complete with a trio of spreads- Homemade Strawberry Jam, Devonshire Clotted Cream and Lemon Curd; and Lemon, Basil Pound Cake. Now who would have thought that scones would be paired so perfectly with lemon curd? This drawer truly brought out the British essence of Afternoon Tea for me.

And the last drawer comes with cookies for you to takeaway too!

For those with little ones in tow, you will be pleased to know that Ant:dote also offers a Children’s Tea set, priced at $15++ per child, featuring Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches, Grilled Ham and Cheese Fingers with Mayonnaise, Warm Raisin Scones with Devonshire Clotted Cream, Honey and Strawberry Jam as well as petite desserts including tartlets and chocolate-dipped strawberries, paired with a beverage choice of tea, hot chocolate or milk.

In all honesty, I would have to say that the Afternoon Tea Experience at Anti:dote Lounge, Fairmont Singapore is by far one of the best afternoon tea experiences I have had. The desserts, scones and canapes were truly impressive and most of all, the presentation deserved the highest praise. The best part is that, it is so competitively priced at $38++ per adult, you will definitely leave feeling satisfied, more than contented and very full. I highly recommend an afternoon here at Ant:dote and it is no surprise which place I will be suggesting for our next girls’ gathering.

Thank you Ruth for a delightful and enjoyable afternoon!
