Seafood Indulgence at Seasonal Tastes, The Westin Singapore

Seafood lovers can look forward to a crustacean feast at Seasonal Tastes at The Westin Singapore! What started out modestly as Seafood Night on Fridays has now been extended to a one-off limited time promotional Seafood Indulgence that will be available only from 19-28 March 15.

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man (or woman) in possession of a good appetite must be in want of a good buffet.

I for one am no exception and believe that a good buffet is judged on 3 aspects: Quality, Variety and Consistency.

Quality
No doubt, everything I saw and tried was fresh and delicious with the exception of the sashimi station where the slices were unfortunately small and thin, lacklustre. Skip that and instead spend your calories on the huge tiger prawns, svelte-looking bamboo clams and of course that glorious counter of oysters freshly shucked before your very eyes, simply just two steps away.

Variety
Two thumbs up for this! The cheese station is a great place to start! With bread rolls and unique blocks of cranberry cheese and cheese soaked in stout, you will be all prepped for the next station- crayfish, oysters and clams. The following station boasts large bowls of pre-mixed salads that were surprisingly flavourful. Think Thai sweet and spicy dressing with refreshing lemongrass and crunchy prawns. Another really interesting dish here is the Dang Gui Salmon and the Coffee Smoked Salmon. Other cooked food items include the roast beef corner and fried golden tempura.

The highlight of the buffet would have to be the “live” grill station. Anything goes here, pick your fish or shellfish and have the chefs grill it for you instantly! My advice is to order a chilli crab at the start so it arrives when you are in the middle of your meal. For those walking on the healthier side (don’t kid yourself though, it is after all a buffet), you can also request for a steamed garoupa or red snapper- all prepared a la minute upon ordering.

Last but not least, the dessert bar is a must try! I was told very sternly to try the avocado and dark chocolate gelato and boy, was I glad I listened! It was a heavenly combination, the avocado taste was not overwhelming and the texture was simply divine. Also, have a bite of the Infinite Brownie and have some fun with the chocolate fondue fountain.

Consistency
I had a couple of really awesome grilled prawns in the middle of my dinner and naturally, went back for seconds. However, the chef probably had too much on his plate and the next batch was overcooked and quite charred. Perhaps, there should be better queue system in place at the grill station so the chefs do not lose track of the orders.

Overall, a very pleasant dinner with lovely company – Thank you Mirabel, Grace, Myra and Bertina for hosting!
