Wildfire Kitchen+Bar @ 26 Evans Road

Taking over the space where the former flagship branch of Hatched used to be, Wildfire Kitchen+Bar, opened by restaurateur Michel Lu, is all about good ol’ bar grub- burgers and beers. Opened earlier this year, this casual restaurant has already earned quite the reputation for serving up hearty tall stacked burgers served alongside some fries. The drill here is simple, place your orders at the counter, collect a buzzer and return to the counter for your food when the buzzer sounds. No extra service provided, therefore no service charge.

We came here on a Saturday at around 12pm and was thus able to order from both their Breakfast and Burgers menu. The former is available from 8.30am-4pm while the latter starts from 12pm till closing time. Prices range from $15 for an Eggs Benedict to $26 for a Fullblood Wagyu Specialty Burger and $36 for the Hanger Steak (250g).

From the list of Breakfast items, we had the Crunchy Brioche French Toast $16 and was delightfully sold by how prettily plated all the elements were. The Brioche itself as a base was coated generously with a layer of cornflakes which gave a nice crunch when bit into, while the maple Chantilly cream and berries combination was honestly quite fail-proof. Portion was just nice for sharing between two especially if you were planning to order other things to try.

For the burger, we went all out with The Works $23 and marvelled at how all the layers could stay so neatly in between those two fluffy but toasted to perfection burger buns that were supposedly inspired by Tokyo’s acclaimed Blacows. Ingredients wise, there was a 120g beef patty, rosti, bacon, onion rings, fried egg, sliced tomatoes and even a thick spread of guacamole for that touch of creaminess.  I personally thought that the price tag was a quite a bargain for the quality, quantity and size of the whole burger. Sinfully enjoyable and I probably would order this again.

And I think I might have just found my new favourite burger joint. Can definitely foresee myself returning to Wildfire Kitchen+Bar to try more of their interesting burger combinations such as the Korean inspired Kimchi Gochujang and Mexican Chili Con Carne.
