Crystal Jade Palace Restaurant Presents SG50 Dim Sum Creation

Although 9 August 15 has passed and many Golden Jubilee Celebrations are now over, there are still many reasons to celebrate. For one, the Crystal Jade Group has extended their celebrations by launching a series of delectable limited edition dim sum and xiaolongbao creations, together with other attractive promotions that are available from now till 30 September 15.


Available at Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao and Crystal Jade Jiang Nan, the chefs have cleverly conjured up Chilli Crab and Hainanese Chicken Rice varieties of Xiaolongbao. While the Hainanese Chicken Rice xiaolongbao paired with sautéed ginger dip was mild in taste, the Chilli Crab xiaolongbao packed a punch with its generous crabmeat sitting in a pool of spicy broth. Unlike other renditions of Chilli Crab xiaolongbao which may be a tad too sweet, Crystal Jade Group’s spicier and saltier version was tailored to my taste buds and left me wanting for more. Having two Chilli Crab xiaolongbao in a steamer basket of four was simply insufficient; I literally had to ask (beg) for more.


The following savoury dimsum delights are available at Crystal Jade Palace Restaurant, Crystal Jade Golden Palace and Crystal Jade Dining IN. Despite having high hopes for the Steamed Siew Mai with Caviar, it seemed like the traditional Siew Mai might have done the job just as well. The Caviar did not give an excitable pop, nor was the umami taste sufficiently flavoursome. The minced pork meat however, was substantial and had a great textured bite to it, with nuggets of prawn sweetness hidden amongst the minced meat.

The Steamed Siew Mai with Quail Egg on the other hand, had a beautifully rounded exterior of minced pork drizzled with lusciously smooth egg white sauce. Stirred in with chunks of carrots, chestnuts, black fungus, it was a delight to bite into the meaty exterior and sink into the softer quail egg interior.


For the convenience of crab sauce and fried mantou lovers, Crystal Jade Group plates up the golden bite sized Fried Chilli Crab Meat Bun. A stranger to none, this combination was a sure hit, although I would have loved for a plumper crabmeat core. Taste wise however, no complaints.


The Goldfish Crystal Dumpling and Chirpy Chick Pastry were crowd pleasers, and we were blown away by the creativity that Chefs brought to the table. It was tough to lay hands on these beauties. The Goldfish Crystal Dumpling enveloped a salted egg yolk custard, and the Chirpy Chick Pastry, a lotus paste filling. The Goldfish Crystal Dumpling would have been be better off with a stronger salted egg yolk flavour, while the Chirpy Chick Pastry, crisp and crusty, was delightful and not overly sweet.


The Full Bloom Lotus Paste and Yam Pastry was another captivating piece of artwork. At one glance, it resembled a simple lotus flower; but this was definitely not the case. Using techniques of alternating the pastry with multiple folding of oil and water, upon contact with hot oil, the folding burst open to reveal a good 20 layers of flaky pastry. Crumbly and yet sturdy to hold its own shape, the encasement of thick yet smooth lotus paste peppered with pine nuts was lovely.


We could not have asked for a better end to our dim sum session. Deep fry milk custard with flour batter, and the end result? Burning hot beancurd-like consistency pillow of milky goodness coated with a fragrant light batter. The Deep-fried Hokkaido Milk Custard flavour profile was light and satisfying, with the crisp pillows of creamy goodness not too overpowering, and had me reaching out for more. Another noteworthy dessert (available on the ala-carte menu) was the Chilled Red Wine Jelly & Mixed Fruits with its deep purple colour profile and silken smooth texture- refreshing and enjoyable.
