Tuk Tuk Cha @ Suntec City Tower 3

It is almost too easy to walk past Tuk Tuk Cha (TTC) and not notice it because that was exactly what happened to us when we went looking for it on Saturday morning. An unassuming takeaway kiosk with less than 10 seats, TTC is by the same people behind Boat Noodle House at Bedok Point and specialises in all things Thai. The kitchen is decidedly modest in size- put 2 people inside and it is already filled. Yet somehow in this cosy space, they are able to churn out one of the best Shibuya toasts in town.

For starters, get their Thai Milk Tea and Thai Green Milk Tea $2.80/$3.20. Both equally refreshing and great thirst quenchers. We thoroughly enjoyed the full-bodiedness of the tea and the delicate balance between the sweetened condensed milk and the hint of spices. A commendable effort and almost as close as you can get to the real thing in Thailand.

TTC also offers Golden Toast $3.80 with a variety of dips. From homemade Pandan Kaya, to Taro Kaya and Thai Tea Kaya, we were honestly quite spoilt for choice. If you cannot make up your mind, it costs $1 for every additional dip. We eventually decided on the Condensed Milk + Milo option and was quite satisfied with our pick. Buttered cubes that were rightfully crisp, smothered with a layer of condensed milk and peppered generously with milo powder. Seemingly simple but the end product was sinfully enjoyable.

The Tom Yam Toast with Chicken Floss and Egg $3.50 was essentially bread pockets stuffed with chicken, omelette pieces with a spicy and sourish finish from the Tom Yam. Interesting textures and certainly not your run-of-the-mill toasted sandwiches. This had both attitude and personality.

As mentioned earlier, TTC offers one of the best and most affordable Shibuya Toasts in town. We had the Aloha Coconut $10.80 which came with fresh young coconut flesh and coconut ice-cream. If you are not a fan of this tropical fruit, the Mango Tango or Tuk Tuk Matcha are also good alternatives. Crusty on the outside but fluffy on the inside, this thick toast was the perfect base for that rich creamy coconut ice-cream on top of it. We finished every last bit of it, the desiccated coconut shavings included. If any of you have Shibuya Toast cravings after coming back from Thailand, we dare say that this one will not disappoint.
