Afternoon Tea with Seafood and Champagne @ The Westin Singapore

The Westin Singapore pulls out all stops with their newly launched Afternoon Tea of Seafood and Champagne. Fancy a three course set featuring a whole poached Canadian lobster and two freshly shucked oysters, a three-tiered platter of seafood delights and canapés, and ending it all off with an assortment of sweet treats such as eclairs, chocolates and cakes. Complimented by a stunning view of the Marina Bay at level 32, I dare say that this Afternoon Tea is by far one of the most luxurious and decadent ways to spend with that special someone. The icing on the cake is that this entire three course tea set including two glasses of Veuve Clicquot Brut Yellow Label is $85++. Top up to $130++ if you want the whole bottle to make the occasion even more memorable.

Our first course as mentioned earlier was all about the cold seafood. A whole poached Nova Scotia Lobster rustically presented in its shell, simply prepared to allow the natural sweetness of the lobster meat to shine through- a little firm, yet tender with a good bite, 1/2 a shell each was definitely not enough! The shucked Oysters paired with three different sauces too were nicely plump and delightfully slippery, complete with a salty finish and sweet notes. We were only on the first platter but already very much impressed.

Moving on to the three tiers which were downright pretty, for lack of a better word. Every item on each level was a detailed creation of exquisiteness and charm though their winsome appeal had to be the delicate and deliberate embellishments of edible flower petals all around the plate. From Scallop Lychee Ceviche to Salmon Coffee with Truffle Foam and Alaskan King Crab with Garlic Butter, we were extremely pleased that the canapés came in pairs so we could have a taste of everything without having to share.

We both agreed that the Lobster Cake with Mango Salsa was one of the highlights. Chunks of lobster and prawn meat combined as a patty, crumbed and then deep fried, nicely balanced by the sour nuances of the mango salsa and distinct flavour of coriander, this was a tropical picture of summer and the best part was, it was all edible. The Alaskan King Crab Blini Salad too was something special with its alternating layers of superbly fresh Alaskan king crab meat, crème fraîche and rock melon jelly, made regal with the globules of salmon roe for an extra pop of flavour.

The dessert platter with its Chocolate Caramel Brownies, Choux Royaltine, Pistachios Cherry Financiers and Choux Chantilly was a dream come true for all those with a sweet tooth. Alas, while we did think that the chocolate-centred treats were sinfully rich and enjoyable, the vanilla-based ones and choux pastries were a tad heavy-handed with the cream and somewhat monotonous in taste. Not quite the finale we were expecting but a congenial one nonetheless.

In short, would I still come back? Most definitely and I personally recommend you dear ladies to bring your BFF to The Westin for an afternoon of indulgence. After all, with the picturesque view, fresh seafood, beautiful canapés and a glass of champagne to boot, you may not be able to buy happiness… but this comes pretty darn close.
