Christmas ’15: Christmas Cheer @ Goodwood Park Hotel

Goodwood Park Hotel always knows how to throw a good party and so it is no surprise that for Christmas this year, the culinary team has put together festive set menus and lavish buffet spreads at their respective restaurants, namely Gordon Grill, Coffee Lounge and L’Espresso. From extravagant treats to sumptuous takeaway highlights, this iconic heritage hotel has got it all covered for you this season.

Festive feasting begins on 1 December 2015 at Goodwood Park Hotel but if you are looking for a fancy dining venue for Christmas Day itself, a great gourmet option would be the Christmas Buffet Brunch at either Gordon Grill or L’Espresso ($158 per person; $90 per child) featuring freshly poached prawns, shucked oysters and lightly steamed baby lobsters. A seafood display is always a hit at buffets and this one here sure delivers.

Over at the Coffee Lounge, popular for its local fare and Taiwanese porridge, comes the special Christmas Lunch-cum-High Tea Buffet with Dim Sum ($68 per adult; $40 per child). Ideal if you are bringing the grandparents or parents out for the afternoon and we all know that oriental cuisine is usually the preferred option.

From the takeaway menu, we unanimously recommend the Slow Roasted Ibérico Pork Belly with Crackling, Pickled Cabbage, Apple Sauce and Pork Jus ($320 for six to eight persons). A tad pricey but certainly worth every crunch of that crisp puffed-up golden-brown crackling overlaying the beautifully tender and seriously succulent melt-in-your-mouth worthy pork belly. Roasted for three and a half hours with the meat locking in all those juices and flavours, this unassuming roll was easily one of the best roast pork I had tasted.

Another noteworthy item is the Goodwood Portuguese-style Curry Turkey ($218 for 10 to 12 persons) that is inspired from Chef’s very own Portuguese curry chicken recipe which was created a whooping twenty years ago ago at the request of the late Mr Khoo Teck Puat, then owner of the hotel. Marinated for two days with all the good spices and baked till moist and flavourful, the turkey meat is enjoyable on its own but even more so when dressed with the accompanying mildly-spiced piquant curry gravy. An order of this Macanese-influenced bird also comes with two 21cm crisp baguettes to complete the experience.

For something that is a guaranteed hit with the kids, order the D24 Durian Snowman ($38 for a pair) which is each made up of three stacked pieces of choux pastries stuffed with rich creamy and lusciously bittersweet D24 durian cream, complimented by a top hat and winter scarf made from red icing for an adorable picture.

And if you are in charge of planning the activities at this year’s Christmas party, then the DIY Christmas Rainbow Tree ($32 per set) would be an interesting addition to the fun. This comes complete with butter sablé pieces that can be stacked up to form a tree and includes piping bags of icing and mini chocolate balls for everyone to demonstrate their creativity.

Not fogetting the perennial favourites such as the Goodwood D24 Durian Christmas Log Cake ($69 for 1kg), Salted Caramel Nuts Cake ($42 for 500g) and Durian Puffs ($52 for 20 pieces) which are all available and back for yet another year. These sweet treats are certainly not to be missed!

Takeaway gourmet treats will be available at the Deli from 1 to 26 December 2015. Advance orders of three working days are required and guests may visit the Deli from 9am to 9pm daily to place their takeaway orders. Alternatively, guests may contact the Christmas Call Centre at (65) 6730 1867 / 1868 from 10am to 6pm daily, email, or visit from 1 December 2015 to place their online orders.
