V Day ’16: A Pink Valentine’s Day Weekend @ Park Hotel Alexandra

Love is in the air and yes it is that time of the year again. The time to impress that special someone or to simply show your other half how much he/she means to you. And if you are looking for a fancy dinner place for that intimate night out without breaking the bank, then The Carvery located at level 7 of the chic and stylish Park Hotel Alexandra might just be right up your alley.

Known for its affordably priced quality roast meats buffet, The Carvery presents a specially-crafted sumptuous semi-buffet menu for Valentine’s Day weekend this year. Available from 13 – 14 February 16, this exclusive dinner also includes two glasses of Veuve Clicquot Champagne alongside a wide variety of seafood, roasts and dessert specials for $188++ per couple.


Titillating Starters

Begin your romantic evening with a trio of starters delivered to your table- Yin Yang Soup (made up of oven roasted tomato soup and creamy leek and potato soup for that perfect balance of flavour- sour, tangy, sweet and savoury), a cold Seafood Platter (featuring freshly shucked plump seasonal oysters, Red Claw crab, juicy Tiger prawns, and cured salmon served alongside with condiments of shallot oil, ponzu dressing and chilli cream) and an Intermezzo of citrus Yuzu sorbet in Champagne to cleanse the palate before moving onto the mains.


Next up is the Salmon Wellington. This one is carved upon order which means that your portion of baked salmon encased in golden brown crisp yet buttery puff pastry is served still warm. Do not forget to pair it with trimmings such as creamy Cauliflower gratin, caramelised sweet potatoes and roasted veggies which are all available for the taking along the buffet line. Though admittedly, the salmon wellington with its layers of button mushroom and swiss chard filling, dressed with leek and mustard cream sauce, was satisfactorily hearty by itself. We definitely wanted seconds after we polished off the first serving.


Ravenous Roasts

And of course, the rotisserie is absolutely not to be missed. Featuring up to 4 premium cuts of beef, lamb, chicken and pork, we dare say that the US Black Angus Ribeye with that gorgeous marbling and rich beefy flavour certainly stole the show that evening. It was hard to resist savouring every bit of it and we succumbed to the temptation wholeheartedly. Chef also recommended pairing this prized cut with his house-made Truffle Butter (which we used as a spread for everything after we discovered its existence) or the fluffy mounds of Yorkshire pudding which was absolutely perfecto.


Luscious Desserts

End off the beautiful and memorable evening with the modest but delightful spread of sweets. Noteworthy mentions include the Flamingo Cake (with a chocolatey brownie-like crumb and raspberry filling), the Cupid’s Churros with Blush Shooters (served in martini glasses for that elegant touch) and Heart-Shaped Cake Pops that were just too pretty.
