Rise & Grind Coffee Co. @ Bukit Timah Plaza

Opened for almost a year now, Rise & Grind Coffee Co. located at the annex of Bukit Timah Plaza has been the answer to the prayers of all the people staying in the western part of Singapore- decent breakfast offerings in the mornings, quality lunch and dinner items, affordable pricing and great coffee. The menu here is never dull, which is why despite having eaten here for a couple of times, there is still always something new to try. The menu is refreshed periodically and so during my recent visit two weeks back, I did get to order a few items that I have not tried before.

First up was the Sweet Potato Fries $10 served with Mentaiko Mayonaisse and sprinkled with nori seaweed and spring onions for a pop of colour. Crisp, not too oily and sufficiently satisfying, this was certainly great to snack on while waiting for our mains to arrive. Great for sharing as it might get heavy towards the end. The RGC Honey Wings $9 was also another appetizing option. Crunchy to bite with just the right amount of sweetness to compliment the savoury fried batter and juicy meat.

If you are tired of the usual Eggs Benedict, go for the Pulled Pork Benedict $15 instead and you will not be disappointed. The pork shoulder was superbly slow cooked till tender and flavourful while the shredded apple slices and apple cider hollandaise balanced out the flavours with the added acidity. No complains about those charming poached eggs as well which flowed on cue. For something more substantial, the Truffled Spaghetti Alla Carbonara $15 with its 63° egg and creamy cheese sauce is a sinful convergence of comfort food at its best. The Tom Yam Seafood Pasta $17 too is a great alternative for something tangy and excitingly piquant.

Although there are not many options for dessert, the Sticky Date Slice with Vanilla Bean Ice-Cream is good enough. Nothing fancy but adequate for any sweet tooth cravings, the moist crumb and rich toffee sauce left our tummies content for the afternoon. Sometimes simple does the trick too and Rise & Grind Coffee Co. did not disappoint.
