Spring-Inspired Heritage Afternoon Tea: Au Jardin at The Lobby Lounge, InterContinental Singapore

The Lobby Lounge at Intercontinental Singapore has just launched their new Spring-Inspired Heritage Afternoon Tea: Au Jardin. Featuring three tiers of handcrafted savoury and sweet creations adorned with edible flowers and dressed in bright colors, this special edition pays tribute to the well-loved season which represents fresh blooms and rejuvenation.

Available daily till 31 Jul 17, from 2pm to 5.30pm, the three-tiered set is priced at $78++for two guests, inclusive of a choice of loose-leaf teas or coffee, or $108++for two guests, inclusive of a choice of loose-leaf tea or coffee and two flutes of Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut Champagne.

I am always a huge fan of afternoon tea, which to me has to have a few essential items- fluffy scones and jam, finger sandwiches, pastries and of course a good blend of tea. The tea set from The Lobby Lounge ticked all the boxes.

Starting from the lowest tier of savoury items, the highlights were the Honey Ham, Egg Mayonnaise & Grape TartletPan-seared Prawn, Gooseberries & Thai Chilli Sauce and Ratatouille-Thyme Flower Quiche. While the tartlet had a classic combination of ham and egg which can never go wrong, the grape wedges added a new dimension and a nice sweet finish. The crust of the quiche too was buttery without being too crumbly and held its own just right.

The second tier were the sweets and our personal favourites were the Lavender- Blackcurrant Tarte that was a tad tart but complimented the subtle Lavender essence well, the beautiful Strawberry- Sakura Surprise which had a whole sakura flower encased in gelatine. And yes, you can eat the whole dome which bursts with Strawberry filling upon your first bite. The Apricot- Osmanthus- Goji Macaron was also something different with its oriental inspiration and fragrant scent.

Right on top was the Raspberry- Rose Choux Pastry which featured a choux pastry that was as scarlet as its rose petal that was perched on top. Not too sure about the colouring that I was consuming but I really liked the fusion of raspberry, rose water and vanilla cream. Delightful and somewhat romantic. This would be very ideal as a Valentines’ Day dessert actually.

Not forgetting the quintessential scones that came with a choice of either Jasmine or Raisin, served with Strawberry Jam, Violette-Orange Marmalade and Clotted Cream. How British! The scones are free-flow by the way so do request if you would like more! We definitely had our fill of the Jasmine ones.

Ending it all with a serving of Crêpes with Berry Compote & Hibiscus-Peach Sherbet each, I dare say that this part was a lovely surprise because I expected the afternoon tea to end after the three tiers and scones. Nonetheless, I never say no to more desserts and that Hibiscus-Peach Sherbet was an absolute crowd-pleaser with its floral notes and pleasant- sourish tones.
