Christmas ’17: INDOCAFE – The White House Festive Menu

We are exactly one week to Christmas and if you are planning a little family get together but want something different from the usual Western cuisine then INDOCAFE is probably one of the more unique dining establishments that you should check out! I have written about the food at INDOCAFE before, here and here, and have always been a fan of the authentic and cosy Peranakan experience that the restaurant offers.

From now till 5 Jan 18 for the festive season, INDOCAFE is offering an ala-carte buffet of Peranakan classics and other Christmas-inspired dishes done with a Straits Chinese twist. Lunch starts from $55++ while dinner is from $59++. Quite a steal taking into account the free-flow spread available and the complexities of cooking that goes into Peranakan cuisine.

Here are some of the dishes that you can expect from the menu:

Babi Panggang and Bawang Manis Ikan Bilis

Grilled Nyonya-style pork skewers with a nicely charred exterior and juicy bite, and deep-fried anchovies served with onion and kalamansi dressing for a refreshing contrast of flavours to kick-start our meal. Dip the grilled meat into the signature sauce served on the side which will cut through the richness of the meat with its tangy spicy touch.

Nyonya Fried Rice

One for the guys who usually always need their carbs or for those who do not have a very threshold for spicy food can take comfort in this fried chicken rice that is both fragrant and generously eggy.

Udang Chili Goreng

Fiery red and enjoyably spicy, these deep-fried prawns definitely pack a punch and leave a lasting lingering impression on your lips especially when they start to heat up because of the chili padi! The meat itself was firm and chunky- worth ordering a second portion of this.

Ikan Masak Merah

One of our favourites that evening, this one won us over with the succulent flesh of the pan-roasted cod fish smothered with homemade sweet sauce. We personally thought that the sauce might have overpowered the natural sweetness of the cold-water fish a little but apart from that, this was certainly memorable.

INDOCAFE signature Kueh Pie Tee

Not to be missed whenever you are here at INDOCAFE, these DIY pastry cups filled with thinly shredded vegetables and miniature prawns are a must-have! Customize your kueh pie tee with as much filling or chili as you like for maximum satisfaction. You might have to request for more “shells” to finish up all that filling!

Perankan-style Roasted Turkey

The Perankan-style Roasted Turkey is featured as one of live carving stations for the special Peranakan Festive Buffet Feast available from 24-25 Dec 17 only! Stuffed with chicken cubes, sweet potatoes, carrot and yam, this one comes with pineapple sauce and spicy otah sauce for an interesting oriental spin. Surprisingly, the former turned out to be the winner and preferred accompaniment for our protein.

Durian Pancake Roll

There is also a decent spread of desserts such as Bubur Cha Cha and Pulut Hitam but you have to leave some tummy space for this homemade Durian Pancake Roll with durian ice-cream. Soft, creamy and dangerously addictive, we advise that you pop a mint or two before you step out for your next appointment because the durian is strong in this one.
