CNY ’14: Bakerzin Chinese New Year Sweets Collection 2014

Bakerzin unveils its Chinese New Year Sweets Collection 2014 for the festive season with individually wrapped pineapple tarts and cookies. From 7 January to 14 February 2014, customers can place their orders online at or at any of the nine Bakerzin outlets island wide for these beautifully packaged Lunar New Year treats that make excellent gifts for both family and friends.


Giving a twist to the most classic of Chinese New Year festive goodies, Bakerzin presents their newly introduced Yuzu Yuan Bao Pineapple Tarts which refreshes with its citrusy notes. Balancing out the sweetness of the pineapple paste, the infusion of yuzu zest was definitely unusual with a tart finish. The vote was split on this one. Some of the family members adored it while others did not quite fancy it. I personally thought it was an acquired taste.

Online Bakery Happy Avenue Bakes & Favors

Even though online bakery Happy Avenue was only officially launched on Facebook on February 8th this year, home baker Judy Then- owner of Happy Avenue, happily shares that she has already sold more than 10,000 cupcakes to date.

Named after the actual road name in Macpherson, Judy hopes that her bakes of cupcakes, shortbreads and cookies do really make people happy when they eat them. And what started out as a good deed of selling her bakes to help a friend in need raise funds, has now developed into a full time job for the home baker in order to meet the overwhelming demand for her sweet treats.


Judy sent over a mixed box of 12 regular cupcakes for me to sample and they definitely brought some sunshine to my otherwise dreary cloudy Saturday morning. There were 7 different flavors in total- Signature Valrhona Triple Dark, Vanilla Lemon Cream, Red Velvet, Choc Peanut Butter, Choc Salted Caramel, Choc Brazilian Coffee and Vanilla Strawberry.
