Weekday Dim Sum Buffet @ Hai Tien Lo, Pan Pacific Singapore

Renowned Cantonese restaurant- Hai Tien Lo located at level 3 of Pan Pacific Singapore has recently launched a pretty awesome Weekday Dim Sum Buffet at a very reasonable price of $48++ per pax. Featuring a selection of 35 signature items, including 20 new dim sum creations by Chef Lee Siaw Cheen, this a la carte dim sum lunch buffet, available from Mondays to Fridays, is the reason why 3 hour long lunches are absolutely necessary and legitimate even.

Dim Sum Chef’s Specialty
Deep-fried Yam Paste with Foie-gras, Baked Egg Tart with Swiftlet Nest and White Fungus, Steamed Berkshire Pork Buns, Stir-fried Carrot Cake with Dried Scallops in Chef’s Special Homemade XO Chili Sauce

These 4 items on the menu are the only ones that are limited to one serving per guest. With good reason I guess, because everyone is probably going to just order these signature highlights over and over again once they have had their first bite- which spoils the concept of a buffet when you should be leaving space for variety, instead of focusing on a few items alone. And trust me, many items on the menu are really worth trying.

My absolute favourite of the 4 was actually the Stir-fried Carrot Cake with Dried Scallops– a surprising choice really if you do know me, as Carrot Cake is not usually one of my quintessentials at Dim Sum. Nonetheless, these ones won me over with its chunky bite, alluring fragrance and appetizing wok-hei. Chef’s homemade XO sauce which it was fried in, certainly complimented it beautifully. I truly yearned for a bigger portion of this.

Another one worth mentioning is the Steamed Berkshire Pork Bun which had an ideal proportion of bao to char siu in every bite. Succulent, juicy and sweet, the stickiness of the meat contrasting with the fluffiness of that bun was just plain delicious. If only I could have one whole basket…

Deep-fried Dumplings with Shredded Turnip

Try not to get scalded as you bite into these golden flaky pastries because they come served piping hot! Not to be missed though, these dumplings were truly mouth-watering without being too oily and greasy.

The Westin Singapore’s The Brunch Beats at Seasonal Tastes

Not quite like your usual Sunday Champagne Brunches, The Brunch Beats at Seasonal Tastes of The Westin Singapore sets itself apart with groovy tunes and a spectacular view of the South China Sea from your seat at level 32. And of course just to name a few other attractions, there is also free flow Veuve Clicquot champagne, fresh gorgeous seafood, live interactive stations, a Steak à la minute Service and an assortment of beautiful desserts offered at this international buffet. Either way, this is one Sunday party not to be missed.

Toast to the weekend with a wide range of alcoholic beverages to choose from. Be it cocktails concocted by the resident mixologist, Veuve Clicquot champagne served from magnum bottles, wines, craft beers or even mix-it-yourself Bloody Marys, there is no excuse not to get a little tipsy from the endless supply of booze available.

For those less interested in alcohol, go straight for the seafood section on ice which entices with its stunning display of oysters, crabs, lobsters, prawns, scallops and mussels.

Getting hungry yet?

These are the highlights of the Jade Restaurant A La Carte Buffet which you do not want to miss out on…

From the list of Appetizers, we started with an order of Deep-fried Prawns Coated with Passion Fruit Mayonnaise– new on the menu. Tangy with a fruity finish, these succulent fat prawns were generously smothered with creamy mayo and bursting in sweetness with every bite. Refreshing and delightful, this is highly recommended. For something slightly more conventional, these is also the Deep-fried Prawns Coated with Wasabi Mayonnaise on the menu. Order both if cholesterol levels are not a limiting factor.

One from the previous menu, this Roasted Five-Spice Crispy Pork Belly is a classic and deservingly so. Crackling and fatty, it was hard to resist stopping at one piece. Everyone probably felt the same because no one needed much persuasion before this plate was cleaned out.

Another new item, this Crispy Squid in Seven Spices Fragrant Salt brought back memories of salt & pepper squid which I used to always order at Chinese restaurants in Australia. These did not disappoint by the way. Crunchy and a tad chewy, these crispy squid were great munchies which I think both young and old will enjoy.

Sunday Remix Brunch @ W Hotel Singapore

Traveling to Sentosa is always an excuse to ‘get away from the city’. Granted that it is technically just a bridge away from the mainland, one will definitely feel that a different aura and vibe is in the air when you are there. After all, what’s not to love about our resort island with its gorgeous coastal settings and dynamic atmosphere?

The Sunday Remix Brunch at W Hotel, just next to Quayside Isle, gives you the perfect excuse to make a trip down, an opportunity to escape from the bustle of the city and simply soak up all the natural elements this vibrant locale has to offer.

Featuring the best culinary creations from its two resident restaurants- The Kitchen Table and SKIRT, this Sunday Brunch is a showcase of global classics, crisp salads, fresh seafood, live cooking stations and grilled-to-order meats and seafood from the latter’s parilla grill.

I stepped into The Kitchen Table and fell in love instantly. It’s hard not to, when the first thing that greets you near the entrance is this cheerful and exuberant display of desserts. The seating area too, charms with convival setting and jolliness. From shocking lime green water tumblers that the waiters serve you with, to the brightly coloured cutlery and quirky salt & pepper shakers, this place certainly does not take itself too seriously and expects you not to as well.

Over at SKIRT, the Seafood Fridge beckons with its cuts of sashimi, succulent prawns and mussels, Alaskan king crab legs and an assortment of sushi. This was an immensely popular station with the crowds and I was lucky to snap this shot before the queues began to form all the way to the door!

Veuve Clicquot Champagne Sunday Brunch @ Edge, Pan Pacific Singapore

Sundays have just gotten a whole lot more indulgent with Edge’s new launch- a brand new Champagne Brunch experience featuring unlimited booze- Veuve Clicquot champagne, wines, beers, cocktails and the likes. Dubbed one of the longest brunches in Singapore, the gastro‐tainment dining experience begins from 12pm and last all the way till 4pm, with seven different food theatres preparing food a la minute, ‘live’ grills, a 2 metre long Cheeseboard and a dessert station featuring over 20 sweet treats.

The good people from Pan Pacific Singapore have spared no expense in spoiling you with this extravaganza. So simply be prepared to get ‘lost’ in the sights, sounds and smells of your surroundings and enjoy the interactive nature of this sensorial experience.

The mechanics behind how this whole brunch buffet works is simple. Take a couple of wooden sticks provided which have your table number labeled on it and bring it along with you as you browse through the buffet line. If anything at the ‘live’ stations catch your eye, make your order and hand over a stick. The food will then be served to your table.

In the meantime while you are waiting, get started on the self service sections such as the Crustacean on Ice display with free-flow Boston lobsters, Alaskan King Crabs, Pawns and Scallops.
