GODIVA Chocolatier Opens Lifestyle Concept Dessert Café @ ION Orchard

Luxury Belgian chocolate brand GODIVA Chocolatier has opened its very first lifestyle concept dessert cafe in Singapore. This also marks the brand’s first foray into Southeast Asia. Located at B1 of Ion Orchard, we were invited to the grand opening party on Thursday and got a first glimpse of the 40-seater cafe with its gold and dark brown colour theme.

GODIVA Chocolatier Café offers a wide variety of gift boxes filled with GODIVA’s luxurious and signature creamy dark, milk and white chocolates. Finished with a thick ribbon tied into a fancy bow, these boxes are grab and ready-to-go presents for your loved ones.

Patisserie Platine @ RISE Lounge, Marina Bay Sands

Built on the culinary success of Waku Ghin, Patisserie Platine – the brainchild of Chef Tetsuya Wakuda – offers an incredible selection of cakes, tarts and other delectable entremets that will charm in both taste and appearance. Every component in these desserts is painstakingly made in-house, using only the finest and most premium ingredients from Japan and Europe to offer the highest quality in taste. Giving form to these beautiful works of art is a talented pastry team led by Chef Yasushi Ishino whose 16 years of experience in the pastry sector has made him a veteran in French and Japanese Pastry techniques.

Having chanced upon the pastry maestro this afternoon, we simply could not forgo the opportunity to capture a photo of Chef Ishino plating a dessert in his sweet-scented playground.

Two Bakers @ 88 Horne Road

The Jalan Besar area welcomed a new tenant about a month ago. Two Bakers, located just a stone throw away from CSHH, The Windowsill Pies and The Bravery, excites with its display of freshly baked goods, all-day-brunch and good coffee made from Stranger’s Reunion beans. The space itself sells too with wooden tables, natural light streaming in through the floor-to-ceiling windows and white-washed walls for a clean and airy feel. Yes, Two Bakers has certainly got the whole concept to attract the cafehoppers in Singapore down to a T.

Food wise, Two Bakers serves up Salads, Pastas and Sides of Luncheon Fries, Calamari Rings, Chicken Drumlets and more, while their all-day-breakfast menu offers house baked croissants and eggs done in different ways.

All-New Afternoon Tea Experience at Anti:dote Lounge, Fairmont Singapore

Anti:dote Lounge, located at the lobby of Fairmont Singapore is one of the newest and most stylish cocktail bars to open on our island. Known for both their experimental mixology techniques and modern tapas by two extremely talented and young craftsman and chef, this snazzy lounge has become the place to be at and to be seen in. And most recently, Anti:dote has upped the ante by launching an All-New Afternoon Tea Experience that is simply charming, chic and practically everything you can dream off for an indulgent sweet afternoon with the ladies.

For starters, the canapes, scones, finger sandwiches and the usual suspects are presented sophisticatedly in an elegant leather-clad white jewellery drawer-chest (because three tier displays are so yesterday). Simply a treasure trove of goodies and treats. Every “drawer” you pull out reveals a whole different set of sweet and savoury surprises.

Swensen’s Fusion-Inspired Medley of American Cuisine

Available for a limited time period only, from 1 September 2013 to 31 October 2013, well-loved family restaurant chain Swensen’s has introduced four new fusion-inspired specialty dishes that is guaranteed to be a hit with both the young and the old. This exclusive range can be found at all Swensen’s outlets during the 2 months.

The first dish- a healthy option, is the Herb Crusted King Snapper $15.90 making a splash with its generous cut of fillet, scrumptious breaded mix of breadcrumbs and parmesan cheese, and characteristic flavor of chopped fried garlic which adds a new dimension to the fish, bringing out its natural sweetness. And on the side, the piped swirl of creamy smooth mashed potato was a delightful accompaniment.

The second and my absolute favorite, is an American classic which originated from the South. Not quite a savory item yet not quite a dessert, the Spiced Maple Chicken Waffle $14.90 allows the best of both worlds to collide on a single plate. Think succulent pieces of deep fried chicken stacked atop a Belgium waffle, doused with homemade Maple syrup and a dash of chilli powder for a punch, this rather eccentric combination felt like an old married couple instead- compatible and meant to be. MUST TRY!!

Swensen’s Braised BBQ Beef Cheeks $21.90 comes with an oriental fruity twist, contributed by a unique Korean blend marinate and dressed in homemade BBQ sauce. The fork tender texture was spot on though without the sauce, the meat may come across as a little dry.
