Samy’s Curry Restaurant (Dempsey)

Samy’s Curry has been at Dempsey for the longest time. I had my very first Nasi Bryani and Flower Crabs here when I was about 7 or 8 years old? (And since it has been a while since I was that age, Im guessing this place must have been around for quite some time now!) Anyway this place brings back so many nostalgic memories. I remember the days when the curry and masala used to be so spicy for me, I had to down mugs of lime juices and suck on ice cubes but I have improved much since then… I am glad to say that the taste has not changed much over the years and bryani is best served on banana leaves :)

Although, prices are a little steep..we paid $70+ for 3 people

Fish Head Curry (Small)
Plain Naan
Nasi Bryani
2 Flower Crabs

The service and atmosphere definitely makes up for it. But honestly, how cheap do you expect the prices to be when the restaurant is located in Dempsey??

Taj Tandoor

I think all the meds I had been taking every day were starting to affect my taste buds :$ Really needed a spicy kick so it was off the Taj Tandoor just 5 min away…

Roti $3- Stone ground wholemeal bread
Garlic Naan $3.50- Naan with fresh garlic

Alu Gobhi $15.50- A punjabi favourite of cauliflower, and potatoes cooked in the wok with onions, fresh herbs and spices

Beef Vindaloo $19.90- A very hot and sour goan preparation of beef with hot chillies and vinegar

Seafood Platter $22.80

Food wasnt that great though we all agreed that the garlic naan was well flavoured and delish :) The beef vindaloo was tender but not spicy enough. The fish and the prawns in the seafood platter were fresh and well marinated.. However, I did think that the portions were a little small for the prices…Not a must try but did satisfy a little Indian food craving especially when it is too cold to travel further…

British India Indian Restaurant

I stick by my mantra about ALWAYS MAKE RESERVATIONS ON A SATURDAY NIGHT IN ADELAIDE! Rahhh. Meant to eat at Gaucho’s but it was fully booked! Walked over to Hog’s Breath which was also fully booked. Hungry Char = Very grumpy Char. Luckily I spotted British India while walking back, crossed our fingers as we walked in to ask for a table and while most tables were all reserved, they managed to squeeze in an extra table for us by the corner! :)

Kashmiri $22- Intense lamb curry, flavoured with sun-dried kashmiri chilli and green cardamon, served with vegetable curry + daal + chicken salad + mango chutney + rice + naan

Barramundi Masala $20- Barramundi fillets cooked in ginger, garlic and a medley of spices (I asked for extra spicy!)

My lamb and barramundi on the naan ready to be devoured ;)

Freshly Baked Garlic Naan $3

One of the better Indian restaurants in Adelaide by far with a good spicy kick :) Great service and ambiance too! Food was served quickly and there was not much of waiting time which was a good thing because we were trying to finish in time for Thor 3D which I might add, was BRILLIANT especially with the 3D effects!
