Do try this place and support local talent ;) You wont regret it! :)

Jour Du Macaron 2011

Happy International Macaron Day (yesterday) everyone!! The Mac Factory celebrated it really well at their shop and I heard the atmosphere was fantastic! I didnt go down because I knew I wouldnt be able to resist the temptation. But I still commemorated the special day of my favourite dessert by wishing everyone on FB! Anyway The Mac Factory organised a ‘Guess how many macarons were there in the tower’ competition and what I did not know was that Wangnian saw my status, remembered it was International Macaron Day and went down to buy back some macarons for Viv! Meanwhile he also took part in the competition. And GUESS WHAT! HE ACTUALLY WON!! OMGGG And that boy was so sweet! He came over to my place to deliver the macarons he won. So I was given 15!! :D :D :D His rationale was that if I hadnt wrote that it was International Macaron Day on my FB status, he would not have gone down.. Wow :) :) :) Viv, you are one lucky girl with such a great bf! ;)

Pity I couldnt enjoy it so Mable brought it to the party to share with everyone else.. Soon soon SALTED CARAMEL and BLACK TRUFFLE here I come!! xx

On another note, thank YOU for such a sweet gesture at the gym today. It was really unexpected and thank you for giving me one thing to smile about on this gloomy rainy Monday! Oh wait, there is one more thing to smile about! I dropped by my favourite shop after church today in Chinatown and I found so many things at 1/2 price!! So I bought a springform round cake pan for sponge cakes, a metal springform one for flans and tarts + an apple corer/slicer!! Will be making stuff soon! So exciting :D :D :D

Ever thine, Ever mine, Ever ours.

I love V day because it’s so nice to walk along the streets and see happy couples holding hands and carrying flowers. I know critics say V day is everyday as long as you love that person but it’s always nice to have a special day to reaffirm your feelings for each other :) No I am not endorsing the spending of hundreds of dollars on dinner or big bouquets of flowers but simply a card or something homemade goes such a long way. It’s the little things that matter and girls you should appreciate it if your partner does it because not many do that anymore in this day and age.

So off to the more important stuff! TODAY IS THE OFFICIAL OPENING DAY OF THE MAC FACTORY!! Goodness! Been waiting for this day since like Jan?? And..it DEFINITELY lives up to expectations! :D :D :D

We got 12 macarons for $23 so that’s like less than $2 for one. Pretty good deal for the standard and quality of macarons I might add. And the best part is that you can sit at the balcony, people watch and savour your macarons, piece by piece. Yes today I died and went to heaven after I co-finished the plate of 12.

So the flavours we tried were

-Green Tea and Sesame
-Carrot, Ginger, Orange
-Salted Caramel
-Milk Chocolate

and they were all really really yummy but I ‘bolded’ the MUST TRIES!! :D Am DEFINITELY going back to try the other flavours! We also tried the Chocolate and Caramel Tart which was really dark chocolate flavoured and the lady at the counter was sweet enough to throw in a free Apple Flan Tart! Naiseeeee :)

Char is a happy happy girl now and on a major sugar high! =P THANK YOU VERY MUCH! :D Enjoy the rest of your evening everyone! :)

And now with a new addition to their menu…
Sundaes at The Mac Factory

Recipe: Hazelnut Macarons with Chocolate Nutella Ganache

Learnt many lessons from today’s baking session…

1) Do not modify recipes unless you are a pro. If you are a noob like me, stick to the recipe to a T!
2) Do not add extra eggs or extra ingredients when delicate stuff like macaron shells are involved or the whole consistency will change
3) Oven is very very important! Use one with a ‘fan’ mode or the baking will end up uneven with the outer part burnt and the inner part still gooey and not cooked
4) Electronic scale is preferable!!
5) Adding extra Nutella to ganache always makes it so much yummier ;)

The ingredients…

Add the icing sugar, hazelnuts and milo powder into the processor

Add the fine processed mixture to whisked egg whites and caster sugar and fold

Pipe it onto the baking tray and put it into the oven for 10 min..

Round 1- Not so successful :( Burnt and cracked shells due to temperature issues

Round 2 which was heaps more successful :)

Start on the ganache- thickened cream, dark chocolate, nutella and butter. Pop the mixture into the fridge to harden

Pipe it onto the cooled down shells from the oven…

Not so nice macarons from the first round..

Round 2 without the added milo powder and extra egg! :D

Good job Tim! :D

P.S. You can refer to http://gninethree.wordpress.com/2011/01/17/making-macadamia-macarons-in-wilmington/ for the recipe of the macaron shells and the exact measurements of the icing sugar, nuts, caster sugar etc :)
