FiSK Seafoodbar & Market @ 30 Stevens Road

FiSK (which translates to Norwegian for fish) Seafoodbar & Market is the newest dining and retail destination that just opened along Stevens road. Offering mainly quality Norwegian and coldwater seafood, FiSK is your one-stop shop that allows you to enjoy your meal and purchase the raw ingredients of what you just had, to recreate at home. And by “coldwater”, we mean that the seafood is kept between -35°C to 5°C so as to retain both the flavour and nutrients. It is believed that lower temperature waters naturally contain higher soluble oxygen, which promotes growth and cleaner, clearer waters. Coldwater fish that grow in these environments would therefore have a much higher level of nutrients and in particular Omega-3 fatty acids, as compared to their warmer water counterparts.

The first item that we tried was the Prawns On Ice $6/100gm. As mentioned earlier, these prawns, though small in size, are packed densely with vitamins and all the goodness because of the environment that they live in. Delicately sweet and brimming with roe, these Norwegian coldwater crustaceans were certainly addictive and refreshing. You will not be able to stop at one!

Lunch offerings include this Open-Face Smørrebrød Sandwich $6 per piece which is organic Norwegian buttered rye bread with various toppings that change daily. Ours had Sichuan house-smoked Norwegian mackerel topped with trout roe and a dollop of sour cream. A tad spicy and peppery, the marinate complimented the flakiness of the fish so beautifully. One of the prettiest open-face sandwiches I have come across by far.

Christmas ’17: A Dazzling Festive Celebration with Capella Singapore

It is a dazzling affair for Christmas this year at Capella Singapore- the urban oasis in the heart of Sentosa island. Capella is the ideal location for a romantic getaway if you want a short break from the cosmopolitan city life but do not wish to hop on a plane.

I had a staycation (one of the best by far) at Capella before and dined at their restaurants a few times now. Each experience here has been nothing short of memorable and I would highly recommend it for a special occasion such as Christmas!

The Knolls

For a fancy set dinner with a South China Sea front setting, the resident restaurant is offering 3/4 courses from $78++ for adults and $48++ for kids.

Options for the mains cater to all including vegetarians with choices such as Grilled Asparagus, Oven Baked Halibut and Lamb Noisette. The former comes scented with black winter truffle for a touch of luxury while the buttery flatfish was laid atop a bed of pumpkin and chestnut cream for a sweet finish. The cream which you might faintly recognize is similar to the one that is usually used in Christmas log cakes- nutty, rich and a little decadent.

Christmas ’17: INDOCAFE – The White House Festive Menu

We are exactly one week to Christmas and if you are planning a little family get together but want something different from the usual Western cuisine then INDOCAFE is probably one of the more unique dining establishments that you should check out! I have written about the food at INDOCAFE before, here and here, and have always been a fan of the authentic and cosy Peranakan experience that the restaurant offers.

From now till 5 Jan 18 for the festive season, INDOCAFE is offering an ala-carte buffet of Peranakan classics and other Christmas-inspired dishes done with a Straits Chinese twist. Lunch starts from $55++ while dinner is from $59++. Quite a steal taking into account the free-flow spread available and the complexities of cooking that goes into Peranakan cuisine.

Here are some of the dishes that you can expect from the menu:

Babi Panggang and Bawang Manis Ikan Bilis

Grilled Nyonya-style pork skewers with a nicely charred exterior and juicy bite, and deep-fried anchovies served with onion and kalamansi dressing for a refreshing contrast of flavours to kick-start our meal. Dip the grilled meat into the signature sauce served on the side which will cut through the richness of the meat with its tangy spicy touch.

Nyonya Fried Rice

One for the guys who usually always need their carbs or for those who do not have a very threshold for spicy food can take comfort in this fried chicken rice that is both fragrant and generously eggy.
