An Afternoon At The Aviary
I really really like The Aviary. It is such a pretty place but unfortunately the only time that they are open in the day is Sunday arvo (on all other days, they are only open from 8pm onwards). So 3 of us took a bus to Norwood to have dessert after lunch on one Sunday afternoon. Expectedly, the whole place was filled with girls (with MP being the only boy), somehow tea and desserts are really a girl thing and boys are only there if your girlfriend drags you there (or in my case, your sister).
We had:
- Fuji Yama Green Tea Pot $5/pot
- Peanut Butter Disaster and Durian Ice-cream Sundae topped with almond & hazelnut praline $9.50
- Honeycomb Macaron Flower Pot in a pot of Chocolate Mud Cake and Chocolate Mousse $10.50

It’s a well known fact that I have a major sweet tooth. Chocolates, cakes, ice-cream- you name it, Id probably love them. Anyway a few people have been asking me where the best dessert places in Adelaide are, so I have decided to compile a list of my favourite sweet places in this city. And since this is my list, it’s also based on my opinions so you probably may or may not agree with me but to each its own.
Right at the top of the list at No. 1 for me is good old CHOCOLATE BEAN

Nobody makes chocolate the way Chocolate Bean does. Love everything about their desserts, the coziness of the cafe and the friendliness of the staff. Maybe Im just biased because of its super convenient location. This is a favourite with the housemates and I! Must tries here are the Indulgence Plate, Chocolate Filth and their cakes on display.
Next..tied at No. 2 is THE AVIARY DESSERT KITCHEN

So it was a night of bringing friends around to my favourite food haunts! :) First it was to WASAI for dinner and then it was off to the Aviary Dessert Kitchen for dessert because everyone has to try their green tea matcha latte + macaron flower pot! =D
Hot Cappuccino $3.70
Green Tea Matcha Latte $4.20
Sticky Date Pudding $10.50
A warm moist classic pudding. Served with homemade Butterscotch sauce and your choice of vanilla ice cream or rich double cream.
Hot Chocolate Fondant $11.50
A moist chocolate pudding encasing a oozing chocolate liquid centre. Served with almond & hazelnut praline, strawberries and Cookies ‘n’ Cream ice cream
Hazelnut Macaron Flower Pot
People were still walking in at about 12mn and the place was still bustling even though it was so late in the night! I really love the decor of this cafe, with its purple velvety couches and random bird cages everywhere :) Definitely must ring up to make a reservation if you want a table. We were almost made to sit at the bar counter facing the streets because it was an impromptu visit on our part but luckily a table finished upstairs so we were able to move! :) Awkward sitting in a line facing the streets eating your desserts I’d reckon! Especially when the group is big!

Aviary Dessert Kitchen Revisited
After my last visit here, I knew I had to bring Jie to try the Matcha Latte because it’s her absolute favourite! So we braved the wind and rain (ok we cheated, we had a car. Hee) and came here for tea on her second last day. On top of 2 Matcha Lattes and 1 hot chocolate, these were the other yummy delights we tried for the day! :)
Panna Cotta (With Maltesers) $8.50
Cherry Ripe Cheesecake $10.50
Hazelnut Macaron Flower Pot $10.50
Im slowly working my way through their menu and I must say that I have yet to be disappointed :) And Im so glad Jie really loved her experience here even though she isnt such a huge dessert person like I am! Everything is so good though there are definitely a few favourites already. If you havent made a trip down yet, you’re missing out!! :)

With the likes of new dessert places recently springing up, The Aviary Dessert Kitchen is one of the most recent patisseries to join the ranks of Patisserie JIN, Au Matin Calme and The Mac Factory.
Easy, accessible location? TICK
Matching furniture with the theme of the shop? TICK
Pretty desserts on the display counters? TICK
Unique and in house specials? TICK
Good atmosphere for Heart to Hearts? TICK
Extensive menu that gets you lost for choice because everything sounds and looks so good? TICK
Yup! This place has pretty much ticked all the boxes for an awesome place to hang out!
Macaron Flower Pot $10.50- Your choice of macaron (Iced Vovo) set in a pot of chocolate mud cake and chocolate mousse
GLEW (Green, Lemongrass, Echinacea, White Tea)- $4.90 per pot
Green Tea Matcha Latte- $4.20
Hot Chocolate- $3.90
Flourless Pecking Plate $12- Flourless Chocolate Cake, Choice of Panna Cotta (Peanut Butter & Jelly) and Choice of French Macaron (Salted Caramel)

You will definitely have to come back here a few more times to try everything on the menu because there are just too many choices and like I mentioned earlier, everything just looks so tempting as well! Place only opens at 8pm onwards so do rock up early because it can get crowded towards 9pm onwards. They do however take reservations! :)
